Getting back onto the ship after the group rescues Set, Xol slowly walks into the medical bay with a slight limp, Set at his heels. He sits down on one of the beds and in seconds, has the young kel-dor on his lap.
"I'm sorry!" Set sobs.
"It's not your fault...it's my fault...I was supposed to be watching you," Xol says wincing a bit while hugging Set. "Never again..."
Set sits on the edge of the bed by Xol while the medical droid does its job.
ReplyDelete"Ow...could you be a little less...painful?" Xol complains to the droid. "I think the guns caused less pa....OW, now you must be doing that on purpose..."
The droid pats Xol on the back when it finishes and leaves to do it's other duties. "Ugh...I guess you can't truly understand pain if you are made of metal huh?" he says as he hops off the bed and then helps Set down.
Xol then kneels down and looks Set over. "Are you ok little one?"
Set rubs the side of his head. "I'm ok...I think I have a bump on my head but I'm ok everywhere else.
Xol sort of looks around, sees no one else around, and nuzzles Set's head saying something cutesy in kel-dor.
He slowly stands up and the two head out of the room.
The two kel-dor head into Xol's room for some training. Xol leaves the door open. He looks at the Holocron and back at Set who is trying to get seated comfortably on the bed.
ReplyDeleteXol just seems to be getting less and less time with the holcron. But there are more important things. He's waited this long to actually have it...he can wait a while longer to learn its secrets.
"I know it may be hard to concentrate now after what just happened today...it's a bit hard for me," Xol says sitting across from Set. Set pats Xol's knee reassuringly. "Heh...but this will help relax our minds and get our energy back where it needs to be with the Flow."
As they sit quietly for about 10 minutes, Xol feels the Flow change, and he sighs as he begins to relax more.
ReplyDeleteHe opens his eyes just in time to see Set sort of jump. "OH! I saw...well," he thinks. "Felt? Saw? It was weird and only for a second...the happiest thing ever!"
"What was it?" Xol asks intrigued.
"I don't...I don't even know," Set says trying to remember anything...something. "All I know is that it had to do with you and me."
"Does that mean something? Or was it just...nothing?"
ReplyDelete"If it is what I think it is...this is something you WILL master...and you will be able to see more than a few seconds."
"What is it?"
"It is not yet time for me to explain that to you little one...it is a burden for someone so young and inexperienced...and can even be a burden for those who are older...just keep in mind...we can make our own destinies. Our future is always changing and you can be that change to accomplish what you wish."
After another 5 minutes of quiet meditation, Set jumps up and yells "NO!" and dives onto Xol from the bed.
ReplyDeleteXol's chair falls backwards with a thud.
"Ugh...Ow...Ow" Xol rubs his head.
Set sits up on Xol's stomach and frantically says, "Now this time! This time...I saw...felt...we need a word for this! Anyway it was just a second...something bad! Does this mean something bad is going to happen now? I don't want anything bad to happen!"
"Nothing bad is going to happen..." Xol says winded.
"Are you sure?"
"I won't let anything bad happen..."
"But what about what happened today?"
"I'm sorry that happened...I was distracted...very distracted..."
"So nothing bad will happen?"
"...we'll be fine...can...can I get up now?"
"OH!" Set climbs off of Xol and lets him get up and fix the chair.
"Phew!" Xol sits back on the chair. "I think we can take a break from training..."
ReplyDelete"Let's just talk...get to know each other's past better? What part of Dorin are you from?"
"(insert kel-dor city or something here)" Set says. "We were very close to the Sages."
"I'm from that same area," Xol says wistfully. Dorin isn't the prettiest place in the galaxy but his memories aren't based in aesthetics.
"Oh do you have any kids? I had a few friends around to play with. Maybe we played together!"
"No...no kids."
Xol sighs, "And no wife. I didn't have time for any of that with the sage training and then getting into the Sector Rangers. I was more worried about others than myself I guess...still am."
"Come to think of it...have I ever even dat..."
"Aww! You'd be a good dad!" Set pops into the middle of Xol's talking.
"What?" Him? Xol? A good dad?
"I love my mom and dad," Set says with a sigh as he thinks about them and tries not to cry, "But you are the best hmmm...second dad ever Xol...not that I've ever had one of those before..."
ReplyDelete"Second dad huh?" Xol laughs.
"Well yeah...unless," he looks down.
"Oh Set...to be honest...this is all new to me. The only creature thats ever had to depend on me was Widdimur. And he's never said anything like that to me before."
~"Hrumph"~
"Well...he kinda can't Xol hehe."
"Haha I guess he can't...but...I'd be honored to be your 'second dad'."
Set tackle hugs Xol.
Don't whine...don't complain...don't ruin it...no matter how much this hug may be pressing on still kind of freshly wrapped wounds...
